Downtown Maplewood is bracing for the loss of their Shop ‘n Save supermarket in a few weeks.

“We’ll definitely miss it,” shopper Angie Bomonahan said.

The store’s parent company, which is based in Minnesota, told News 4 the store’s lease will not be renewed.

City officials said when the store first came to Maplewood 20 years ago it helped spark the economic development that exists today along Manchester Road.

“It’s one of the reasons we got revitalization in Maplewood,” said City Manager Marty Corcoran.

Despite the loss, Corcoran told News 4 they are hopeful a new tenant, possibly another market, will come in to occupy the building.
