It's a phone call Laura Steinman will never forget.

On the morning of April 23, 1993 someone shot and killed her brother while he was working behind the counter of an Arnold liquor store. More than 25 years later the murder of Steve Weltig remains unsolved.

"They found him (shot) execution style laying on the floor. He was killed with own gun - shot in the head," Steinman recalls.

Weltig was the owner of the Ajax Liquor Store located on Jeffco Boulevard. He was 40 years old at the time of the murder.

Steinman said her brother had no enemies and was well known in Arnold.

Weltig's mother is now 85 years old and is begging for closure in the case.

On April 23, Weltig's family and friends attended a balloon launch on the parking lot of the former liquor store. The occasion marked 25 years since Weltig's murder.

According to the Arnold Police Department, it's considered a "cold case" and the Weltig murder was reviewed approximately two years ago, but it's not under active investigation.

In 1993, News 4 reported on the murder and showed a composite sketch of a man seen leaving the liquor store parking lot around the time of the murder.

According to Weltig's family, the store had surveillance cameras, but they were not working at the time he was killed.

Steinman believes the killer could still be in the St. Louis area and adds "Steve was too well known. It's solvable."

She said the person who killed her brother placed a box over his head before leaving the store.

Steinman is pleading with the public, "I just wish someone would come forward."

Anyone with any information about the murder of Weltig from April of 1993, should contact the Arnold Police Department.
